Position: Pastor of Operations & Family Ministry
Job Title: Pastor of Operations & Family Ministry
Reports to: Lead Pastor
Status: Full-Time (40–50 hrs/week)
Location: Canopy Church, Costa Mesa, CA

Job Summary:
The Pastor of Operations & Family Ministry plays both a strategic and pastoral role in stewarding the infrastructure of the church and the discipleship journey of families. This leader ensures operational excellence across church systems while cultivating an environment where children, youth, and families grow in faith, connection, and formation.
Key Responsibilities:
Operations & Administration (~50%)
● Develop, refine, and manage Canopy’s operational systems, including finances, logistics, communications, and internal processes.
● Prepare and oversee financial reports, budgets, and forecasts in partnership with the Lead Pastor, board, and accounting firm.
● Maintain contracts, vendors, insurance policies, payroll (e.g., Paychex), and legal/IRS compliance.
● Maintain and update employee and contractor records, onboarding processes, policies, and benefits.
● Coordinate church-wide calendars, communication systems, and cross-ministry planning tools.
● Oversee administrative staff and volunteers, supporting a healthy and productive team culture.
● Partner with ministry leaders to ensure smooth and excellent Sunday gatherings (e.g.,hospitality, supplies, logistics, setup/teardown).
Benevolence & Community Partnerships
● Develop and sustain a Canopy Benevolence process that helps discern and distribute Canopy’s First Fruits giving to partners
● Cultivate and maintain our First Fruit partnerships to support their mission and to enroll our church towards city-wide and global engagement.
Family Ministry (~40%)
● Partner with Lead Pastors to create a discipleship strategy for Kids and Youth Ministries, including a cohesive and age-appropriate formation journey
● Oversee Canopy Kids Ministry on Sundays, including regular classroom leadership and training for classroom leads.
● Lead and support Canopy Families and volunteers through coaching, teaching, and formation-aligned development.
● Ensure safe, welcoming, and spiritually rich environments through strong curriculum planning, safety protocols, and volunteer onboarding.
● Equip and support parents as the primary spiritual leaders in their homes through workshops, resources, and relational care.
Pastoral & Team Leadership (~10%)
● Provide pastoral care and leadership within the wider Canopy community.
● Participate actively in staff meetings, strategic planning, and team development gatherings.
● Model a life of integrity, prayer, humility, and joyful and maturing discipleship.
Qualifications:
● A deep and growing relationship with Jesus and a strong commitment to the local church.
● Bachelor’s degree in ministry, business, or related field (or equivalent leadership experience in ministry or nonprofit contexts).
● 5+ years of experience in leadership, operations, or organizational management.
● Proven ability to oversee finances, systems, staff, and communication processes with integrity and care.
● Able to foster trust, navigate complexity, and build collaborative systems for sustainable ministry.
● Relationally gifted, especially with families and multigenerational contexts.
● Strong written and verbal communication skills with high follow-through.
● Able to handle sensitive information with maturity, discretion, and grace.
Bonus Strengths (Preferred but not required):
● Familiarity with Planning Center, Paychex, Google Workspace, and related tools.
● Cross-cultural or bilingual ministry experience.
● Background in education, counseling, or family systems.
Compensation & Benefits:
● Salary Range: $70,000-80,000 (commensurate with experience)
● Flexible PTO: Employees may take time off as needed, with supervisor approval and in consideration of organizational needs.
● Housing Allowance: This position qualifies for the Minister’s Housing Allowance exemption, offering a valuable tax benefit.
